About

Hello! I'm Josie, and I love being a dietitian because there is nothing that will change your life for the better (and worse) than food. I feel honored to be part of your life-changing journey, one meal and snack at a time. I am committed to promoting food neutrality, intuitive eating, body neutrality, and emotional & physical well being across diverse body types, ages, and identities. I follow an evidenced based, patient-centered, compassion-focused, and trauma-informed practice approach.

I have 8 years of experience in various outpatient nutrition counseling settings, which includes general hospital-level outpatient care, specialized eating disorder outpatient counseling, and higher-level eating disorder treatment. I am passionate and an expert with supporting individuals in that intersection of both a history of various metabolic and chronic conditions as well as an active eating disorder or disordered eating pattern, most notably with bariatric surgery. I believe all people deserve to be and feel well, even if a bariatric surgery is part of someone's story.

I provide an individualized and big-picture approach to all clients. Your lifestyle, environment, routines, career, community, support network, and overall health are part of your story in discovering what is the best way to eat for you. My goal is to help you adopt an eating pattern that is individualized to you without sacrificing everything else that makes you you. You will find that I am compassionately direct while meeting you where you are.

What it's like working with me

Your session with me: I am interested in getting to know you and your story. Prepare to answer "why" you engage with food the way you do because that allows for curiosity over judgement. Our sessions will be a mix of conversations about your relationship with food, evidenced based recommendations and education, and reflections.

My energy: Warm and direct with both words and body language. I will call you out and also be the first to make sure compassion is in the room with us.

Outside of the office: You'll find me hiking, knitting while listening to audiobooks or half watching/half listening to reality TV, making myself food and treats, and dog walking.

Fun/meaningful fact: I live in Birmingham, Alabama with my spouse and dog but the rest of my family lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, where I grew up.
